[edit] Introduction
Welcome to the SAM Site topic. If you need any information about this structure, here you will find it! But before we start there are a few notes you must know.
We will discuss the SAM Site seen in Renegade this differs in a few aspects from the one seen in C&C (the original). First of in the original game, the SAM Site could withdraw in the ground and thus be harder to damage. While the one in Renegade is always above ground and can therefor be easy destroyed by 1 remote C4 or any heavy weapon fired upon it.
The NOD SAM Site as seen in the original C&C
[edit] History of the SAM
The SAM Site was first created by the Soviets early in the 20th century. Stalin used these SAM's to kill of any Allied aircraft to enter within it's range, thus keeping the Soviets firm in control of there airspace without needing to use there Migs.
Even tough the Soviets had a wide range of strong weapons, the Allies won with the help of the Americans, and Stalin was overthrown his body was lost in action.
50 years after the war first war between the Soviets and the Allies, Kane revealed his forces to the world after gathering alot of power in the world. He had used the Soviets technology of SAM's and enhanced them giving them more power, a greater range and the ability to hide themselves if the danger was over.
The GDI as the Allies are called now, have had much difficulty with these SAM's and would only send there aircraft to an enemy base if all the SAM's where destroyed.
[edit] Building Functions
As one might have noticed, the Surface to Air Missiles a.k.a SAM Site, is used as an anti-air defense structure. It fires volley's of 6 missiles at an enemy aircraft once one has entered near it. The missiles have a good guidance system and will thus almost never lose there target.
Doing significant damage it is best to stay away with any aircraft if they aren't well trained.
If lost, NOD will have a significant loss with there anti-air power. It is best to keep these alive if the enemy rely s alot on aircraft units. A second downside the team will get is that they will now be forced to spend there attention towards these aircraft while they would els have or almost no worry s about.
Even though the SAM only attacks airborne units, on some maps, some will also attack ground units which are on higher ground then the SAM itself! This can be very dangerous as the SAM itself fires fast and accurate!
As this picture shows, the SAM is actually firing at me! And I myself am only around 1 meter above the ground at which the SAM stands.
[edit] Structural Design
The design of the NOD SAM Site is very simple. It has a beam shaped form, on which the missile launcher is installed. The missile launcher itself has 6 missiles holders, thus being able to fire a volley of 6 missiles at a time.
[edit] Defending and Attacking
[edit] Defending
Defending a SAM Site can be hard at some times, for one remote C4 can take an entire SAM down! Most units that will try to bring down a SAM will be ground forces, not many airborne units will try to face a SAM directly because of the changes they would be struck down!
The best way to defend a SAM is to make sure the enemy can't reach it naturally. but placing a guard to ensure it's safety is the best option!
[edit] Attacking
A SAM should NEVER be attacked by an airborne unit! Unless the person in question wishes to kill himself or waste money. As stated above 1 C4 can kill a SAM so it is very weak against any ground force it encounters. Since every unit in the game has a timed C4 anyone with 30 sec of time can kill a SAM. but if you wish to kill it fast, one or two tanks should take care of that problem.
Of course you can also ignore SAM's and use only ground forces, but it best to also be able to use air support even if they are only for support missions.
[edit] Optional
The SAM itself is only seen in the Singe player (or on certain servers), tough some mods give you acces to the SAM and place it on maps. This isn't done by dedicated servers tough!
