The Obelisk, feared and loved at the same time... This gigantic structure is Nod's defend against the hordes of GDI tanks. Here you well learn how the Obelisk reacts, when it fires and most important how to make sure that you either keep it as your ally, or how to bury it into the ground!

There are in fact two kinds of Obelisks! The first one is a very large Obelisk, usually found in the Single Player Campaign. It consists of 3 combined segments that form the tail of a scorpion, which is also represented by the logo of Nod. This Obelisk is so large that it requires a substantial amount of coolant, which is pumped up through four tubes to the crystalline tip which projects the laser beam.

The second Obelisk is a smaller version, which is used to protect small Nod bases from GDI attacks. This is found on most multi player maps. Even though it isn't as strong as the larger version, it still inflicts a considerable amount of 300 dmg points per beam. Because this Obelisk is much smaller and less powerful it doesn't require tubes to transport the coolant to tip of the structure.

[edit] Building Functions

The function of the OB is pure and simple. Is an enemy nearby? Destroy it! The OB is Nod's defense structure against the GDI. It's the only function of this building! One may not underestimate it's power. If it lost, GDI can just go in and out of the base without much trouble! And if you are on a fly map then expect alot of "bugs" (Orca's) to begin swarming around your ears.

Loosing this building should be avoided at ALL costs. Losing any other building (with exception the PP if one is on the map) is acceptable. But once the OB is down GDI can easily begin to pick of Nod's better forces one by one. It is also handy that if the OB is lost to start a more defensive strategy! For GDI will surely begin using rush tactics and the likes.

The Obelisk consists out of 3 segments. The first one is the biggest which is the base, it houses the MCT and 1 Purchase terminal. The second segment is just to connect towards the third one which in it's turn holds the gem where the OB fires from.

[edit] Defending and Attacking

Defending the Obelisk isn't really needed! The Obelisk can defend itself against most enemy attacks. But a mine here or there, would be appreciated. But on most maps, one can attack the OB without taking hits them self thus making it hard for the ob to kill the attacker! Then an engineer is needed to help the ob and others must attack the threat. APCs will usually try to rush up to the OB's base, and go to the back door. Almost all APC drivers can drive their carrier to the OB without getting there vehicle killed, then dropping there payload of dangerous Hotwires or engineers to blow the MCT to bits. the best way to combat this is to put a bunch of mines in OUTSIDE the door and around te base so that when the APC drives over them it destroys the already damaged carrier. If all else fails, you can try and run up to the attackers and place C4 on them. this is usually suicidal, as the APC driver will probably notice you and run you over or shoot you before you can deliver your explosive payload.

One can attack Ob quite easy! A good APC driver can get to the OB without being killed. This is the nightmare of every OB, an apc being able to get to it's front door! If an apc is able to get there, let all the engineers dismantle any mine there are in the ob and then place there C4 while the APC gives much needed time.

Els an MLRS can attack the OB from a farther distance and attack the structure without being hit. A good Medium tank rush is also handy in taking down the Obelisk, for perhaps one or two tanks will die, but the others will reach the ob and are able to kill the engineers inside the OB, since the OB is so small it is easy to damage the ones inside and once they are gone so will the Obelisk.

If one wishes to do the most damage to the men inside, fire at it's base, it small enough so firing anywhere will have the same effect!
