[edit] Introduction
Welcome fellow Renegade player. You wish to know more about the Hand of Nod? Its strengths and its weaknesses? Well look no further because in this topic we will discuss almost everything that you need to know about this building. For a wise man once said: know thy enemy better then thy known thy self
And what better way to know the enemy then to know everything about there base???
[edit] A few important notes
Even though this topic will have lot's of information about the Hand of Nod, it is impossible to put in everything that is known about tricks, structural, attacking and defending of the HoN. As of this I ask that if one knows something which isn't added in this topic, please feel free to write it down.
Also feel free to brows the other Structural guides of buildings in Renegade.
[edit] Building Functions
The Hand of Nod is Nod's counterpart of GDI's Barracks. If fully powered and active, one can buy advanced soldiers. Going from the simple Officer to the heavy armored mercenary Mendoza. It is a very important building to keep alive. For once it is destroyed Nod can't replace its heavy infantry anymore.
If the HoN is lost some extra side effects will occur! Though not being able to replace your infantry is the main downside, some minor downsides are, that if Nod doesn't have any more Technicians they won't be able to mine their base any more and will need to rely on engineers and remote C4 to defend their structures (the engineers need to be at there C4 in order to detonate it when an enemy is close by).
The last downside Nod get when the HoN is down, is not having the ability to have anti-air infantry nor anti-tank infantry. This seems to be the same as the main downside, but this is separate as Nod almost always uses infantry to destroy heavy tanks from a distance.
[edit] Structural Design
[edit] On Non-Flying maps
The HoN is a cube shaped building. North of the building is a ramp, which is attached to one of two doors which you can find at the HoN. Once you are up the ramp, and have entered the HoN, you'll find Purchase Terminals on the left and right side of your location. The main pillar you see in front of you is the bearer of the HoN's weight. This is needed because of the large arm coming out of the rooftop of the HoN holding a world in the palm of it's hand (this refers to Kane's power). If we follow the path in the HoN (left or right) we will see the Pedestal, which is surrounded by a series of windows. Seven windows in total surround the Pedestal. If we walk on the Pedestal and turn 180° we will see a ramp going down to the ground floor of the HoN.
What we also notice is the large screen featuring the world map. At times you will hear a News report coming from the screen. Below the screen, is the Master Control Terminal of the HoN. This is the part of the building that is the most important!!! It is very weak against C4 attacks so defend it well.
If we follow the ramp down towards the MCT, you will have a Purchase Terminal again left and right of you. Follow this path and you will reach the second door of the HoN which is located to the most south of the structure.
[edit] On Flying maps
The entire HoN is the same on a Flying map except for a small difference. At this time there have been added some more ramps to both sides of the HoN. Many users use these ramps as a third and fourth way to get out of the HoN. Tough enemies will also try to use them.
Because there are new ramps added to the side of the HoN, one can now get on top of the structure and attack enemies (ground or air) from a relative safe side.
The downside to this is, that an enemy can try to Ion your rooftop and protect it from above, thus making it hard to defend your HoN.
[edit] Defending and Attacking
Because there is more then 1 door, is it hard to defend or attack the HoN. In this part of the topic we will explain the best way to defend the HoN and to attack it.
(This will be explained using the Flying HoN design!)
[edit] Defending
If one knows where the doors and other entrances to HoN are it is rather simple to defend the HoN! Mine the entrances of the HoN in order to stop units from entering the structure. Proximity mines should always be set upon the ramps of the HoN (the outside ramps), and a few mines must be placed at the back door of the HoN. Since most of the time the front door is pointing base inward or is defended by the Obelisk.
The World in the Hand which the HoN is named for is also a prime target for GDI MRLS (Mobile Rocket Launcher System, GDI's answer to Nod's Mobile Artillery) as it is exceedingly high, and very easy to hit from a distance.
If the HoN is being attacked it is best to use your units on good locations to attack the attackers. hiding behind the windows, or on top of the roof is a good way to attack ground forces! The ramp going towards the MCT is also handy when you crouch you can then not be hit by enemies but you yourself can still attack them! Also GDI likes to put APCs around on the far side of the HoN in order to try and kill the engineers inside without risking a venture past the Proxy C4.
Also the ramp going towards the MCT is the best place to repair the MCT. This is if one would repair it on ground floor and an enemy comes in from the back door, they can C4 you easy steal it and then blow up the structure. But if you are on the ramp, one can see the enemy approach from all sides and is thus relative safe from any harm.
[edit] Attacking
As explained, the HoN has multiple doors making it easy to attack the HoN. Most attackers will prefer to use the back door for you will be spotted less often than going through the main door! Watch out when attacking that there aren't any stealthy proximity mines placed. They tend to kill you if you approach to close.
MRLS are often the most commonly used vehicles when attacking the HON. The Hand holding the Earth makes a ripe target for MRLS and rocket infantry, plus repeated hits rack up points and credits very fast.
If you decide to use the ramps attached to the windows, be careful not to jump to eagerly inside the HoN. Some good miners are known to place C4 right at the edge of the window making any jump into the HoN lethal!
If one decides to use tanks to attack the HoN, be sure the fire at the side where the windows stop, this is where the MCT is located and most engineers will repair. If you do splash damage, you will surely get some kills and bring chaos upon the inside of the building.
The Red shows where one must fire in order to the most damage to engineers inside the building.
