[edit] Introduction

The Apache and Orca are well known throughout the entire renegade community. They are feared and respected by many. But it isn't the speed or strength that makes sure you win from an enemy; rather, it is the pilot which brings forth the awesome power of the aircrafts.

Within this thread, we will learn more about the pilots and some of there tactics they use within the game. So that future players or senior members can learn how people became these masters of aircrafts.

[edit] Information about the rankings

One might say "Why give these guys a rank?". Well it's simple in renegade itself ranks are given to players by others, some which are very known like noob or noobjetters and the likes. The ranks given here are used inside the game. But this is mostly said by people that fly themselves. People outside of this "community" almost never use these ranks if they even have heard of them.

[edit] When does one achieve a rank?

The ranks that are given to people flying an Orca/Apache is calculated by the amount of times they have flown. Off course some will not get this rank even tough they have flown a lot, because some skill is off course required as well to achieve a new rank.

Some people off course are naturally gifted, if this is the case the normal ranking system may be neglected.

[edit] Ranks and Requirements

On the topic Tactics for Orcas/Apaches there has been made a small info panel about the pilot ranks. But here we will go more in depth, and telling some special tactics to recognize the rank a person has. The Requirements needed for obtaining a new rank will consist out of a few needed things, like how many times the person has flown, how much time it costs for one to kill another enemy aircraft and so forth.

[edit] Rank 1: The Noobie

The Noobie or noob, ... is the first rank a pilot gets. This rank is given to everyone who haven't flown before and thus not knowing how to use an aircraft.

  • Times flown: 0 - 20 times
  • Requirements needed for this rank: No requirements are needed to obtain this rank.
  • Tactics: Noobs tend to try and master the take of and landing. They don't use special tactics, and often fly in straight lines toward there enemy. Because they have never flown before it is easy to recognize these persons. If they use a tactic it will be try and evade shells and rockets, tough most of the times they will not be able to avoid them.
  • Level of threat: None - Very Low

The threat level of noobs is very low they will tough if they know how to fire the secondary weapons be able to do minor damage towards a large tank. But most people will be able to ignore them without getting to much damage.

  • Skill needed to shoot down a Noobie pilot: A Noobie pilot is the weakest of the Orca/Apache community and are thus able to be taken down by a small group of soldiers, 1 APC, a sniper... In other words, one does not have to be skilled in anything (except a little aim) to shoot down a Noobie pilot.

Note: Even though they are the weakest of the Orca/Apache pilots, they can become a small threat if they are able to attack a structure and are covered by other units. In a 1 on 1 fight they will most likely loose.

[edit] Rank 2: The Rookie

The Rookie is a pilot with a minimum of experience of flying... This rank is the most command on renegade, since most players don't really specialize in flying. These persons use the Orca/apache for a quick hit or when opportunity of using an aircraft is good.

Rookies them self will be a little more dangerous then the Noobie cause of them having mastered landing and taking off. A rookie is always one which will prefer a good tank above an Orca/Apache.

  • Times flown: 20 - 80 times
  • Requirements needed for this rank: A minimum of 3 times flying is needed, one must have mastered the landing and takeoffs + a few minor tactics learned.

If one has gotten these requirements he is given the rank of Rookie.

  • Tactics: Rookies tend to use the easiest of tactics when flying in aircrafts. Especially the Harvy tactic is used, and the minimum of Base Assaults will be learned in this phase. Rookies that have done some more flying will eventually be able to avoid most shells without problems and even try attacking other aircraft, tough this could be difficult for the person if he is facing either someone of the same rank or higher.
  • LVL of threat: Low - Medium

The lvl of threat of Rookies shouldn't be underestimated, or els they could surprise you. they are pilots in training still and will try to avoid danger but harass easier targets. Thus making them more dangerous then Noobies for they know which target to attack and which enemy to avoid when flying.

  • Skill needed to shoot down a Rookie pilot: Since this pilot has obtained some sort of experience be aware that they will react faster then a Noobie. If you wish to take down a Rookie pilot, then a somewhat skilled sniper, or APC driver can take this one down without to much difficulty.

Note: The Rookie pilot is a dangerous one if they are accompanied by fellow Rookie's or more experienced ones. They tend to work in groups and thus a rush can be formed which one doesn't take care of it in it's growing fast, the rush will have a high % of succeeding in action.

[edit] Rank 3: The Pilot

This is the medium rank that one can get. Pilots have mastered every basic move, and have some minor and good tactics in their arsenal. They are the second biggest group of the ranks. It must be noted that they will often be mistaken for Rookies because of their flying method, tough they will if alerted become more dangerous and thus surprising there enemy.

If one recognizes a Pilot, it is best to be alert, for they can attack swiftly and hard. Their main source of attacking is surprising the enemy and forcing them to either retreat or being able to weaken them down to a point of destruction.

  • Times flown: 80 - 300 times
  • Requirements needed for this rank: A person must have flown a number of times in order to master the avoiding style and the attacking formations. The Pilot also needs to have a few good tactics in order to get this rank. Pilots which don't have a good amount of tactics will be considered rookies.

If one has achieved these requirements the Orca/Apache community will give them this rank.

  • Tactics: The tactics most Pilots use are seen as the real basic tactics. These are from attacking the Harvester to being able to infiltrate an enemy base. Even if there are enemy defenses like the Obelisk or the Advanced Guard Tower. Another tactic they are also use is the "Attack retreat". Tough many frown upon this tactic s a whore tactic.
  • LVL of threat: Medium

The lvl of threat that a Pilot uses is medium. They tend to attack enemies that are even in abilities to there own but there main target is still weaker persons, or slow moving ones. They are not afraid to attack there attacker head on, tough if attacked by something which does significant damage, they will fall back and repair themselves before going back to another place, thus avoiding the threat.

  • Skill needed to shoot down a Pilot pilot: One needs to have a good amount of skill or a high class weapon in order to defeat a Pilot. There reaction time is fast and they tend to avoid to much damage, and repair if it is needed. To defeat these persons, one needs at least a high lvl weapon and preferably 1 or more persons to help shoot down the aircraft.

Note: A Pilot will if attacked try to defeat it's attacker head on. This can be dangerous but also an advantage for you, since you are able to see the enemy without much problem thus having a good view to shoot it. If one encounters a Pilot be careful.

[edit] Rank 4: The Master

As the rank says, this is the Master rank. Not many persons achieve this rank. But if one achieves this rank he is a very powerful enemy. Having mastered many tactics, these persons are elite in flying an Orca/Apache. If being attacked they tend to see from where the attack was send, then fall back if needed to make repairs. And then go after and eliminate there attacker. They are known for being able to squish infantry without much difficulty.

These are also the ones that are able to defeat a rush without receiving to much damage.

  • Times flown: 300 - ?? times
  • Requirements needed for this rank: One must have mastered every aspect of the Orca/Apache, also have a wide range of tactics up there sleeve. Being able to avoid other Orca/Apache enemies and being able to defeat the lower ranks when 1 on 1. One must also be able to take down a sniper without to much damage and be able to kill infantry without using the Machine Gun.

If one has achieved these requirements the Orca/Apache community will give them this rank.

  • Tactics: A Master will use all the above tactics. Combined with some special ones of his own. Off course this is not needed to obtain the rank, but if one doesn't have a trick or 2 of his own he will surely be overmastered by another Master. A tactic which masters like to use is being able to attack an incoming rush or the ability to move far inside an enemy base with base defenses and either attack the base defenses, or taking out a building within the base.
  • LVL of threat: Medium - High

If one encounters a Master, the changes are that they will be killed within a few seconds if not in a tank. The best ways to avoid a Master is to find a safe place to hind from, or have exceptional dodging skills. A Master also tends to try and attacker persons stronger then him (ex. 1 or more Sakura/havoc). Tough many will not try to attack more then 1 heavy sniper at a time for the risk of being killed is very high at this moment. They will rather try to lure 1 of the 2 away and kill them of 1 at a time to prevent heavy damage to the aircraft itself.

  • Skill needed to shoot down a Master pilot: Since these pilots have mastered more tricks and have mastered the controls of the Orca/Apache better then anyone before them, they are thus very hard to take down. You need a highly skilled sniper, or more then 1 sniper (in this case they may be lesser skilled). But note that masters won't be afraid to defend themselves against these attacks! They will instead of doing an open attack try a more stealthy attack in order to surprise the enemy and thus having the upper hand.

Note: Masters even though trained in the art of flying, are not invincible. one can take these men down but beware that they will not go down without having a good fight. Also note that a master if he is in yoyr team can make the difference between winning and loosing a game. I have seen games in wich a master was able to turn the tide of an entire game.

[edit] Rank 5: The Pro-Master

The highest of the Masters are called Pro-Masters. These are the elite of the elite of there branch. They are very rare on the Renegade because of there high flying skill which takes a lot of practice to achieve... They make there specialty "flying" over anything els! Only when forced will they get another kind of tank or when they are rushing off course. If the War Factory or Air Strip is destroyed and they still have there aircraft, they will try to keep it alive as long as they can. Taking a minimum of risks.

Pro-Masters are also the ones which are able to take down almost any threat without problem. Only a Master or another Pro-Master can take them down in a 1 on 1 fight. They are also considered the most dangerous of all the rankings. And since they mastered there branch so well, they are also able to use a Transport helicopter without difficulty.

  • Times flown: ?? times
  • Requirements needed for this rank: One must have obtained the requirements of the Master, and at least have a few tricks of your own in order to back up your arsenal. Pro-Masters are also the ones which are able to take to down an entire rush. (With exception a Stank rush for the stank rush can't be spotted... But if spotted, the orca will be able to take down the part he finds)

If one has achieved these requirements the Orca/Apache community will give them this rank.

  • Tactics: Pro-Masters use the most advanced tactics known to Orca's/Apache's... There tactics are the most dangerous to do. But since one has the skill, these risks will be at a minimum. All the other tactics that are used in the above ranks are known to a Pro-Master.
  • LVL of threat: High - Extreme

A Pro-Master will try not to be to recognizable even taking on the appearance of a Noobie. They attack fast and swiftly, and have the greatest reaction time of the ranks. They will if needed take huge risks in order to achieve what they want. If attacked by a sniper, they will react directly. Since most persons use a heavy sniper Sakura/Havoc, the pilot can spot them from afar and thus once he has repaired his Orca/Apache, attack the enemy.

Also note that they will use a lot of maneuvering actions to avoid being hit by enemy fire. Even some skilled snipers, will miss if they encounter these ranks of pilots.

  • Skill needed to shoot down a Pro-Master pilot:The only way to shoot down a Pro-Master and be 100% sure he will be down is by setting up traps. At least 2 or more snipers, ramjet or normal ones are needed to take this one down. One could use a Raveshaw or PIC Sydney, but since there range is shorter they aren't used much when trying to attack the enemy. Tough they do somewhat more damage then a normal ramjet sniper.

Trying to surround the enemy aircraft, waiting till it is near your trap and then firing from more then 1 side. thus preventing the aircraft from making a landing and repairing himself on the field. Also it is best to make sure he has no escape route towards his base. Should he have one the changes of him escaping are high.

Note: These are the rarest of players, and one will not encounter them easy. they will only be able to show there skills on maps which support Aircrafts. It is also best known that these will try to keep there plane alive as long as they can...
