Advanced Guard Tower

[edit] Introduction
"Following the destruction of many Global Defense Initiative bases by the Brotherhood of Nod, the High Commander of GDI has reported that a new type of defense structure is in the making."
This has become a fact commander. The Advanced Guard Tower has been created to serve just that. Any Nod unit will have a hard time confronting one of these towering buildings.

[edit] Building Functions
The Advanced Guard Tower or AGT is the Global Defense Initiative's primary base defense. It's purpose is to attack and destroy any enemy unit that comes into range. It fires both bullets and rockets at high speed and with a high rate of fire but causes lower damage per shot. Unlike the Brotherhood of Nod's Obelisk, the Advanced Guard Tower can fire at four or more targets at once one time. The Machine gun section of the AGT is actually a modified copy of the Brotherhoods Ceiling gun.
[edit] Structural design
The structure design is basically a vertical rectangle. The mid section on the structure contains four machine guns. Note that these four machine guns are incredibly powerful, though they resemble the Nod Ceiling Gun and sound like Automatic Rifles, they are exceptionally powerful and cannot be independently destroyed. Just because you're in an armored vehicle doesn't mean you can forget these guns--they will erode away your armor at a frightening rate. I would guess each gun, damage-wise, is the equivalent of a laser chain gun. So that's one powerful rocket and four LCGs firing at you, Nodies. These guns will continue to fire long after you get into the rocket's dead zone. The top of the structure contains a radar array to detect nearby units, including stealth units. The Rocket Launcher is a rocket which appears out of nowhere from just above the top and tracks any enemy with frightening speed and accuracy. The AGT's rockets are very powerful, and very guided, able to kill several infantry with a single shot. However, the AGT's rockets, due to placement, have a large dead zone. Getting within 20 or so feet of the AGT will prevent the rockets from hitting you, though the very powerful guns will still hit you. All four guns and the rocket have independent tracking and targeting systems, so keep in mind the AGT can potentially damage 5 different units at the same time. In a map like C&C Under, one or two of guns will actually see and hit you before the rocket will if you have an Arty angled just around the corner.
The inside of the structure is a simple design. The Master Control Terminal is directly ahead of the entrance and Purchase Terminals are located on the left and right sides.
[edit] Defending and Attacking
[edit] Defending
The Advanced Guard Tower will defend itself against units within it's firing range. Any units either too close or too far from the tower will not be fired upon and can destroy it at their leisure. A Hotwire or a couple of engineers should be nearby to repair if the the AGT if it comes under attack. Anti-Vehicle units such as the Personal Ion Cannon Sydney or Mobius should also be on hand to deal with vehicles that are too close or too far.
Infantry are very rarely an issue as the Advanced Guard tower can destroy them in seconds. There are a few exceptions to this, however. On C&C_Field.mix for instance, an infantry unit can run through the tunnel near the Advanced Guard Tower when the harvester passes and get inside. As a general rule, if you see or hear the AGT fire, tell the team to investigate or check it out yourself. Infantry may also try to "harvester walk". This is when a NOD unit (usually an SBH) walks next to the harvester in order to escape the fire of the Guard tower. Most servers ban this, but just in case, the best way to take care of these "AGT walkers" is listing to the fire of the AGT's weapons. if you hear those, its means you under attack! if you don't see any NOD units, it means someones Harvester walking.
Another possibility is that the enemy will try and rush the Advanced Guard Tower with a group of technicians or engineers in a vehicle. Mining inside can efficiently deal with these types of attacks for the most part. If possible, it is a good idea to also have a Hotwire inside in case a unit or two gets past the mines.
[edit] Attacking
Attacks can be carried out in many different ways. Depending on the map, you can try to attack with a group of Stealth Tanks or Flame Tanks or even APCs filled with engineers or Technicians or Mobile Artillery. Stealth Tanks give an attack the element of surprise and makes it harder for GDI to save the structure in time. Flame Tanks are powerful and can often cause more damage then the enemy can repair. APCs are speedy and ideal for early game attacks and Mobile Artillery can cause massive damage from out the range of the enemy's defense. If your APC rushing, make sure you jam you APCs nose inside the door before your infantry gets out, to clear the mines in front. Most noob miners will bunch them all up right in front of the door, making it easier for you to "mine sweep".
If attempting to destroy the structure externally it is best to fire near the bottom so that units inside will receive splash damage.
Another very little known tactic is that it is difficult, but possible to evade the AGT's fast-turning guided missiles. I have accomplished this with a Recon bike before. The best tactic is to get a straight line approach to behind a building at full or near-full speed. Attempting to evade the missile with any aircraft, in my experience, is impossible unless you can get to behind a building in less than two seconds.
Remember, the AGT contains the most powerful, fastest, and more maneuverable rocket in the game. If you hear a rocket fire at you, chances are it's going to hit you.
Also keep in mind the enormous splash damage of the AGT's guided rocket. Diving behind a boulder will generally save you if the AGT loses sight of you, but a rocket never forgets you--once it locks on to you, it WILL follow you. The splash damage of a rocket is insane and am impact on the opposite side of a boulder you've taken cover behind WILL severely damage or kill you.
Note: Some maps have 2 AGTs. This is very rare. One example is CnC_Country_Side, where both teams have two defensive structures and a Construction Yard repairing them.
